7 Flash Tinders for Survival – Which Works Best?

A ferro rod is an excellent survival tool which enables one to create hot sparks to ignite a fire. A good tinder is necessary for the sparks to become fire but different regions of the world have different natural materials. The following are seven flash tinders that I have used successfully to start a fire but which one is best? Several factors can make starting a fire more difficult such as humidity and dryness of the materials. I made this video on a cloudy day. The temperature was 67˙F (19˙C) and the relative humidity was 80%. Watch the video to see the results.

Materials used:
1) Dry cattail leaves
2) Dry fan palm fibers
3) Dry thistle flower head
4) Dry chaparral yucca stalk
5) Cattail fluff
6) Ceiba tree cotton
7) Dry grass

Please let me know what are your favorite flash tinders.
