Making Warm Clothes Out of Yucca – part 1

Winter has set in and temperatures are near freezing at times and I really need some cold weather protection. I don’t like killing animals so I’m going to weave something warm to wear. Banana yucca (Yucca baccata) grows in deserts from California to Utah to Texas to Mexico. The leaves are very tough and the fibers make excellent cordage. I’m also making thick yarn by twisting short fibers and animal hair into the cordage. This is going to be a long project so any tips and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
