Winter Bushcraft | Brush Bed | Fire | Hot Tent Camping

The three of us went winter camping up the Black Mountain, Wales, UK. I was in the hot tent and to keep it basic went without a sleeping mat or bag. I created a bushcraft style tree branch brush bed topped with a sheepskin rug and wool blanket. It was a cold winter night and it dropped down to minus 1 celsius in the night and to top it off I couldn’t get the fire restarted. I had to resort to putting on extra layers and squishing into the dogs bag best I could 😂. Can say the branch bed was very comfy though and if I’d had extra fire lighters to relight the stove in the night I would have been fine. I think this may be the first time I’ve slept without the inner tent. The fears of beasties and bugs crawling on me did not come to be as it was so frosty outside.

For tea we all cooked up a feast. Drufus went with the mixed grill, Nathan had steak, sausages and burgers and I went with bangers and mash. The fire was very slow burning all night due to the damp wood and we went through quite a few fire starters to get it going. We eventually settled on using the Pomoly T1 mini stove with the chimney attached which gave it the perfect airflow it needed to burn. I didn’t film the walk back down the valley but the grass was covered in glistening frost and there was snow on the peaks in the distance. A beautiful way to start the morning.
