Rethinking Civics Education: How to Inspire Students to Be Effective Young Citizens

In order to inspire students to become civically engaged, we need to think deeply about the knowledge and skills necessary for students to be effective and productive citizens in the 21st century. In this talk, using stories of both success and failure, a teacher explores his teaching career with high school students in his Political Action Seminar class. He questions the current, traditional format of civics education and offers insights into how we can provide a potentially better model for student civic engagement.
