A Night In A Mountain Cave | This Trip Went Wrong! – Cnicht Part 1

I set out to beautiful Cnicht all excited for the adventure ahead, with no idea how challenging it was going to be. This trip was hard! The paths on the OS map that I’d planned my route by didn’t actually exist (to be fair, I should know that the OS maps tell fibs by now!) So, I made my way through an evergreen forest full of blow-downs, crossed streams, got engulfed by shoulder-deep ferns and threw myself and my gear over a high wall. All before being greeted with a lot of pathless, ankle-breaking terrain on Yr Arddu. I lost my drone – likely it fell out of my waist bag during one of the many map checks that I had to do to navigate the crazy terrain. I worried that I wasn’t going to make the cave before nightfall, but I did find it in the end and have a lovely and cosy night there.

Cnicht is known by some as the ‘Welsh Matterhorn’, due to its stunning pyramid shape – gorgeous isn’t it! 😀
