Don, special guest, and I build a rock, gabion basket, modeled after the mmm grill cook top. We use wire mesh to hold filed stones we found on the off grid property to form the base, and raise up the level of the cooker, then we pour a cement bottom to hold the welded metal frame which holds the mmm grill brackets. The mmm grill is adjustable on the metal rods, which makes it so that we can adjust the temperature of the cooker without having to add, or remove any fire wood, or coals.

Gabion baskets are quite simple to use. Simply create the form you wish to fill, secure with wires, then fill the basket up with river rock, field stone, or whatever other rocks you have handy. These structures can form retaining walls, or other structures to hold back dirt, prevent erosion, or build interesting furniture as we are doing today.
