Bushcraft Shelter Building & Cooking Over The Fire

Finally starting work on a new permanent survival shelter by the river! The final goal is a “Jungle” hut in the style of the Chickee shelter which was used by Seminole Indians in the 1800s.

After all that hard work, I cooked a big dinner of red beans/rice and sausage w/ my new Pathfinder canteen cookset and skillet. If you guys are in the market for a stainless steel cookset, you CANNOT go wrong with Self Reliance Outfitters.

Of course, I still have tried and true gear like my Ontario RAT 5 which has been my go-to bushcraft survival knife for years. Unfortunately, my Silky Pocket Boy has a broken blade so I had to use my backup folding hand saw by The Friendly Swede. Not bad but not nearly as good as Silky.

In the near future, I’ll return to finish the raised bed/floor and get started on the walls and roof. Considering using palm fronds to a cover a roof latticework. Should be a fun project and a location that will serve me well in the future.
