Fire in the Snow: Difficult Bow Drill With Natural Cordage

The first snow of the season came early this year, so I was excited to get out and play in the challenging conditions.

I made cordage out of some Black Cottonwood bark, but this is not the ideal time of year for this material. It was a lot more brittle and not nearly as strong and ended up causing a lot of issues for me.

This was one of those “just barely” embers, right on the line between success and failure.
