How We Celebrate Summer in World’s Coldest City: Yhyakh Festival

During the summer, the temperature in Yakutia rises from -70 to +35°C. So, every year, during the summer solstice, Yakut people are celebrating “Yhyakh” festival, the rebirth of nature after the long freeze which symbolizes another start to the year. This Yhyakh festival is held in an enormous glade and Yakutian sacred site, not far from Yakutsk. The celebrations blend dancing, concerts, sports and picnicking with time-honored religious rituals. And Traditional music and pop ballads blare from sound stages.
