I Soaked My Spindle Testing a Belt as Bow Drill Cordage

I found an ideal maple branch broken off about 15 feet up off of the ground that I knew would be dry. I almost always wear gloves when working with sharp tools, but often forget when trying to break down wood by hand. This time one of the sharp branch tips bit me while I was trying to break it loose.

I wanted to test the idea of using my belt for bow drill cordage, but found out that wasn’t as easy as I was expecting it to be. I tried for almost an hour and ran into some unexpected setbacks before switching to bank line.

Questions, comments, and suggestions are always welcome.
