LOST? IN THE JUNGLE | Avoiding Dangerous Elephants | Friction Fire | Foraging | Waterfall | THAILAND

During my trip to Asia, I went on a jungle hike in search of a waterfall in northern Thailand, near the border with Laos and the Mekong River. The hike lasted approximately 5 hours going through some challenging terrain; dry river bed, thick bamboo jungle and climbing rocky outcrops. The temperature was 38 degrees Celcius (100F) during the afternoon heat but it was all worth it once we reached the waterfall. As it was the dry season, there wasn’t much water…..but enough to cool our sweaty body’s down!
Some of the already beaten paths leading through the thick undergrowth turned out to be elephant paths. The elephant dung was the giveaway! We were very aware of the dangers of wild elephants and as magnificent as they are, we didn’t want to meet one! Rich, my good friend and wilderness guide of 13 years, knows what to / what not to do in the event of danger so I was very confident that we were in safe hands. Was this a fun hike through the jungle? It definitely was!
