Norfolk Coast Path. Part 6 – Happisburgh to Sea Palling. Beach Hiking. Lost Villages and Bunkers.

This video is the second part of my walk along the Norfolk Coast Path from Cromer to Sea Palling and is part of a series on this National Trail. The Norfolk Coast Path stretches from Hunstanton on the Wash to Hopton-on-sea to the south of Great Yarmouth. It covers a distance of 84 miles, passing through varied areas of salt marsh, sand and shingle beach, crumbling cliffs, dunes and many seaside towns, villages and historical ports.

After a restful nights sleep in my bivvy bag, I get up to the sound of the waves crashing onto the beach below the cliffs on top of which I spent the night. A nice cup of coffee and some breakfast before packing up and heading off along the trail.

I begin this leg in the village of Happisburgh, slowly crumbling into the sea beneath the ever watchful lighthouse – its own fate measured in just a few decades. The route takes me along the beach, past wave-smoothed chunks of masonry and 800,000 year old footprints preserved in the rock. Past the seaside holiday village of Eccles-on-sea and into the dunes, strewn with old world war two bunkers, slowly being reclaimed by nature. And finally on to Sea Palling with its impressive coastal erosion defences and its long history with the sea.

This section of my walk ends here, but I hope to return soon to complete the trail to the finish line at Hopton-on-sea.

I hope you enjoy the walk, I certainly did!

Thanks for watching!
