Nostalgia Bushcraft/Wild Camping UK – Midges Out in Force

We went wild camping to a site last visited 21 years ago in the Brecon Beacons of Wales, UK. The location was by a mountain stream near an old abandoned farm house. Judging by the size of the trees growing from inside I’d say it had been abandoned for a hundred years. We used a bushcraft firebox to get the fire going and did a spot of foraging with some wilderness survival skills.
I worked out the location of this Brecon Beacons wild camping spot from a photo of my uncles in the year 2000. We built a dam and had a little paddle in the river to chill out with a couple of beers. I completely forgot a vital ingredient to my lamb curry and Drufus cooked up a Meatball Marinara. I talk about watching out for giant hogweed and the effects of it. In the morning the midges came out in force in a big way. They wanted blood and they knew where to find it. I’m fairly sure they sat and waited outside our tents all night for us plotting to attack.
