Primitive Grass and Rush Basket with Lid

Ancient cultures were masters at utilizing natural materials found in their surroundings to create useful and beautiful objects and tools. For a very long time I have been fascinated with baskets but lacked the patience and time to try creating one. I had previously made a few baskets from cattails but this time in this video I experiment with baltic rush and wild oat grass to see what I can create. After seven hours of weaving I finally had a finished product. This was good practice and I learned a lot. The baltic rush is a really good material but the wild oat grass is not good for basketry. Next time I will do it differently.
