Primitive Rock Oven Cooked Chinook Salmon (Catch and Cook!)

The annual salmon run is in full swing, where up to 15,000 salmon return to the stream in which they are born to complete the life cycle by spawning. We target fresh run salmon to get the most fresh delectable fish meat for dinner. As it is mid-August, the salmon run is just starting so the fish are new to the stream, not too beat up to be eaten.

We use row bags from spawning fish tied in a row bag on a small hook. These are drifted down using a float reel or spin reel with a float attached. The main concept is to allow the row bag to slowly drift past the fish and incite a strike. The line is then set rod tip down stream and the fight begins!
