Reading | World History Project

WHP students read a lot. Reading, in one form or another, is part of most of the activities in the course. Students will revisit the Three Close Reads process often. Not only are there traditional articles to read, but we also ask you to treat videos as text. In order to help students read beyond factual information, WHP teaches students how to read for overarching concepts, and asks them to relate this information to other concepts they’ve learned in the course. To master these skills, you’ll ask your students to complete three close “reads” for every article, and to do the same for videos, which they’ll learn to read as text. Reading an article three times might sound daunting, but once students get the hang of the routine, they’ll start applying the strategy to everything they read. Students are introduced to close reading strategies in the first readings of the course.
