SHACK SHELTER – BARK ROOF, LOG CABIN NOTCHES, AXE, SAW, BUSHCRAFT

I am building a raised shack shelter using natural materials. I make a bark roof using pine bark. I use an axe and saw to carve log cabin notches into the roof logs. The way I have built the structure means that it is completely self supporting. Although I have used bushcraft to make cordage from tree roots. The shelter is inspired by an old book called Shelters, Shacks and Shanties by D.C Beard. There is a link below to this book. I am trying to build the bushcraft camp shelter as close to the stilted shack shelter in Beard’s book as I can. But I am adapting where possible. The log cabin notches help to keep the upright logs in place. I am not confident that the bark shingle roof is going to prevent water getting in, so I will soon add more debris to the top of it to make the shelter more waterproof. The camp has been built from entirely dead wood that I have used from my previously dismantled bushcraft camp in the woods. Thanks for joining me on the adventure! Part 3 will be out soon.
